Biography

Dr. Bragin received his MS degree from Rostov State University (Russia) in 1999. He completed his Ph.D. in biophysics at the Kogan Research Institute for Neurocybernetics of Rostov State University (Russia) in 2003 where he studied the effects of photodynamic treatment on neurons. After several short-term research fellowships he joined the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of New Mexico as a Post-Doctoral Fellow in 2005, where he directed his research to epilepsy, stroke and brain trauma. In 2011 he was promoted as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Neurosurgery. Dr. Bragin′s research has focused on the circulation and metabolism of the brain after the stroke and traumatic brain injury.

Research Interest

His current research is to study the involvement of cerebral microvascular shunting in the development of hyperemia, brain edema, tissue ischemia and blood brain barrier disrupters duringintracranial hypertension after severe cerebral insults.
