Dinorah Gambino

Dinorah Gambino
Professor, Department of Inorganic Chemistry
Montevideo, Uruguay

Biography

Dinorah Gambino obtained her Pharmaceutical Chemist degree and PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry, Universidad de la República, Uruguay. She appointed an initial position at Faculty of Chemistry in 1979 and is currently Full Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in this institution since 2010. She is reviewer for several journals on Inorganic Chemistry, Bioinorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry and Biology and was guest editor for hot topic issues Metals in Medicinal Chemistry (Minireviews in Medicinal Chemistry, 2004) and Advances and current perspectives in Medicinal Inorganic Chemistry (Current Medicinal Chemistry, 2010).
\r\nHer research interests are centered on the chemistry and applications of metals in medicine and the design and study of mechanism of action of novel metal-based potential therapeutic agents, mainly for the treatment of diseases of high incidence in America: neglected parasitic diseases (Chagas disease or American Trypanosomiasis and Leishmaniasis), tuberculosis and cancer.

Research Interest

Development of metal complexes for the therapy of cancer and parasitic diseases (mainly Chagas disease and Leishmaniasis).
Vanadium complexes as insulin-mimetic and antitumor agents.
Studies of the interaction of bioactive complexes with biomolecules like DNA and proteins.
Insight into the mechanism of action of metal-based potential drugs.
Rhenium, Technetium and Gallium complexes with radiopharmaceutical potentiality.
Metal complexes for the treatment of tuberculosis.
