Biography

As a member of the University of Mississippi Medical Center faculty, Dr. Sullivan has been involved in teaching and course development of undergraduate, graduate, dental and medical school courses. She has served as mentor for seven PhDs and as a member of over 30 graduate student committees. She has been a collaborator and co-director of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute supported Base Pair program, a collaboration between the University of Mississippi Medical Center and local high schools to provide mentorships for high school students and professional development programs for high school teachers. Her research interests include methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Hepatitis B virus genotyping, analysis of tissues for Epstein Barr virus DNA/RNA, Kras mutations associated with colorectal cancer and FGFR1 receptor copy number variation in head and neck cancer employing digital droplet polymerase chain reactions. Currently, Dr. Sullivan collaborates with hospital infection prevention and hospital epidemiologists to track MRSA and carbapenem resistant Enterobacteriaceae using single locus sequence and multilocus sequence typing as well as whole genome sequencing.
