Biography

Dr. Douglas Hime has been a Professor of Joint Military Operations at the USA Naval War College since September 1998 after his retirement from the U.S. Air Force. He previously served on the faculty at NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy, where he was the Senior USA. Military Representative from 1996-98. His prior assignments included: Professor of Joint Military Operations, Naval War College, Newport, RI, from 1992-96; Chief, International Negotiations Team, U.S. Delegation to the NATO Military Committee, Brussels, Belgium, 1990-92; and Deputy Director, Bomber Operations and Chief, Crisis Action Planning, Headquarters, Strategic Air Command, 1987-89. Colonel Hime also served in several command billets and in a variety a flying assignments as a B-52 Instructor Pilot/Functional Test Pilot/Flight Evaluator, where he accumulated 3,800+ hours in B-52s, with 400+ in combat during three short tours in SE Asia. A graduate of Emporia State University, Dr. Hime holds a master’s degree in management from the University of Southern California and a PhD in humanities from Salve Regina University. He is a graduate of Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and NATO Defense College. An adjunct Professor of Humanities at Salve Regina University, Dr. Hime is a member of the editorial board for Joint Force Quarterly and a frequent guest lecturer at Joint Special Operations University.

Joint militaryoperations-operational art, Theater-level planning, National security, Warfighting functions, Security assistance/cooperation, Peace operations, Interagency cooperation insurgency/counterinsurgency, Civil-militaryoperations, Japanese WWII maritime operations in south Asia and Oceania during WWII.
