I have been a research investigator in the field of Molecular and Cell Biology for the past 23 years. My recent and currently ongoing federal grants from NIH, DOE, NASA and NSBRI are all focused on cellular/molecular responses and cell signaling upon radiation and on studies involving vascular complications in responses to radiation, and other pathophysiological risk factors. Currently, my group investigates the mechanisms involved in hemodynamic shear stress and mechanotransduction signaling in macro-vascular complications upon radiation exposures or under hyperglycemic conditions. These responses were/are being studied using in vitro, ex vivo organ culture, and unique in-house developed in vivo mouse models. These responses were/are being studied using several cancer models and normal cell types both in vivo and in vitro. Part of my research work also involves selective targeting and molecular imaging for early diagnosis and treatment of cancer. I have published more than 74 peer reviewed research articles in highly reputed scientific journals. I was invited as plenary speaker or session speaker over 40 national and international academic meetings. I have developed successful collaborations both nationally and internationally. Through my collaborations I have expanded my research background into studies involving nitric oxide signaling, breast cancer research and development of animal models. My expertise in the interrelated fields along with my wealth of research experience and productive collaborations puts me in a unique position to successfully carry out the proposed project. I have established my leadership as a principal investigator through prudent management of research funds and the successful completion of several major federal, foundational and pharmaceutical projects.
