She gained her first degree in Medical Sciences in 1995, and completed her medical degree in 1998 at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London Medical School. She then trained as a Physician in Pulmonology and General Internal Medicine. She has always had an active interest in chronic inflammation in disease and completed her PhD in 2010 following the birth of her 2 children. He is now a Clinical Lecturer working within the University Of Birmingham, in a state-of-the-art Laboratory, at The University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

Research Interest

Her active research interests include defining and understanding the impact of immunophenotypes on the clinical presentation and progression of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Alpha-1 Anti-trypsin Deficiency (working within the UK A1AT Registry), Chronic Bronchitis and Non-Cystic Fibrosis Bronchiectasis. This predominantly includes studies of cell biology. Primarily, She is interested in neutrophil and monocyte/macrophage function with a deep interest in cell migration using live-imaging techniques to ascertain the positive and negative sequalae of neutrophil proteinase release in vitro and in vivo). However, her work also includes translational studies of inflammatory profiling and genetic and functional studies to assess the role of inflammatory polymorphisms in disease, as well as clinical phase II – IV trials of novel and emerging therapies. Other active research interests include the impact of healthy aging on innate immunity (immunosenescence), trying to identify novel targets to improve cellular responses.
