Ernesto Fedele graduated summa cum laude in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Techniques in 1988 and in Pharmacy in 1989 at the University of Genoa (Italy). From January 1990 to December 1991, he was visiting scientist at Merck Sharp & Dohme Neuroscience Centre (Harlow Town, UK) directed by Dr. Leslie Iversen, where he demonstrated the existence of high affinity re-uptake systems for glycine in the brain in collaboration with Dr. Alan Foster. In 1992, he had a first permanent position as laboratory technician at the Institute of Pharmacology and Pharmacognosy, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Genoa and in 1995 became Assistant Professor at the Department of Experimental Medicine (DIMES) of the same university. In 1994, he was awarded the Upjohn Prize for Pharmacology from the Italian Pharmacological Society. Since 2001, he is Associate Professor of Pharmacology, Pharmacology and Toxicology Unit, first at DIMES and then at the Department of Pharmacy (DIFAR) where he works at present. In 2015, he has been appointed Coordinator of the Pharmacology and Toxicology Unit, DIFAR, and he has been elected Member of the Academic Senate of the University of Genoa. He has published 80 peer-reviewed articles in the field of neuropharmacology and neuroscience, with an average IF of 4.178 and an h index of 25.

Research Interest

Mechanisms of neurotransmitter release and its modulation by presynaptic receptors under physiological and pathological conditions; physiological and pharmacological control of cAMP and cGMP in the CNS; neurochemical studies in Parkinsons disease patients and animal models; modulation of A-beta production by cyclic nucleotides and its physiological role in memory.
