Biography

Eunseog Youn received postdoctoral training in Bioinformatics and Ph.D. in Computer Science. With outstanding expertise in bioinformatics and machine learning, he has published more than 30 peer-reviewed scholarly publications related to new bioinformatics algorithms, metagenomics, and novel machine learning and data mining applications in biological data. He demonstrated research accomplishments and innovative teaching initiatives including the development of a new master’s program in Bioinformatics. He is a founding member of the Institute of Computational and Systems Biology (ICSB) at Texas Tech University. He has been a dedicated teacher, being the top-ranked faculty member on teaching effectiveness in his department. His innovative teaching has been very well received by the students in Computer Science, Biology, Electrical Engineering and other disciplines. He is a collaborative researcher, actively engaged in interdisciplinary research in diverse disciplines such as microbiology, plant and soil sciencs, biology, and engineering. He received his BS and MS in Industrial Engineering from Hanyang University, Seoul, Korea and University of Wisconsin-Madison, respectively. He received his PhD in Computer & Information Science & Engineering from University of Florida. He did his postdoctoral training in Bioinformatics from Indiana University School of Medicine. He joined the Department of Computer Science at Texas Tech University as assistant professor in 2006 and was tenured and promoted to associate professor in 2012.

Research Interest

His research interests are in bioinformatics, metagenomics, and machine learning.
