Biography

Professor George Tsao received his Ph.D from the University of London, Institute of Cancer Research: Royal Marsden Hospital. After postgraduate training, he joined the Department of Anatomy, Chinese University of Hong Kong as a faculty member. In 1987, he went to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute at Harvard Medical School to receive postdoctoral training in cell and molecular biology. Subsequently, he became the Laboratory Director of the Gynecological Oncology Division, Brigham and Women Hospital and Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Harvard Medical School. Professor Tsao is currently a faculty member in the Department of Anatomy and the Director of the Center for Cancer Research at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong.

Research Interest

Professor Tsao's research interests are mainly focused on mechanisms in cell immortalization and malignant transformation. Specifically, he is interested in the immortalization and transformation properties of Epstein-Barr virus in nasopharyngeal epithelial cells and cancer. Prof. Tsao is currently one of the ten elected members in the Governing Board of the International Association for Research on Epstein-Barr virus and Associated Diseases.
