Biography

Henry Boyter Jr. is the Director of Research at the Institute of Textile Technology. His research is directed at the application of emerging technologies to the improvement of textile material properties in special use areas such as homeland defense, chemical / biological monitoring, energy conserving processes and the application of green chemical techniques to textile processes. This research includes the use of ionic liquids in textile processes, the application of UV curing to textile coloration, the tagging of textile materials, and the production of textiles as chemical contamination indicators. He is the Director of CESTAB (Committee for Economically Sustainable Textile and Apparel Businesses) and past-Chair of the AATCC RA100, Safety, Health and Environmental Technology Research Committee. Dr. Boyter\s experience includes twenty years with the textile industry, first as a private researcher / consultant, and with the Institute since 2000. >He received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia in 1987 after receiving B.S. (Clemson University) and M.S. (University of Virginia) degrees. >He has conducted research for groups such as the American Textile Foundation (ATF) and the Alabama Textile Manufacturer\s Association (ATMA).
