Biography

Hong-Sheng Wang received his undergraduate degree from University of Science and Technology of China and his PhD degree from the Department of Neuroscience at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He joined the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2002 and is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Cell Biophysics. His research interest includes the effect of estrogenic endocrine disruptors on the heart and the role of ion channels in cardiac physiology and diseases.

Research Interest

His lab is interested in the sex-specific effects and underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms of environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals (eg, bisphenol A) and endogenous estrogen on the physiology of the heart and their role in cardiac diseases. A second major focus of the lab is on the role of ion channels in controlling the electrical and mechanical properties of cardiac cells, and how alterations of ion channel properties contribute to abnormal myocyte electrical and mechanical properties in various disease conditions such as heart failure and arrhythmias. They employ electrophysiology, imaging, protein chemistry and molecular biology techniques in the lab. In addition, we use mathematical modeling and the real-time dynamic clamp technique to address these questions.
