Biography

Dr. Ignacio Bejarano is a staff scientist at the Department of Physiology of the University of Extremadura (UEx), where he works as a Postdoctoral Fellow supported with a grant by Laboratorios Angelini. He received his BSc (2006) and MSc (2008) degrees in Biology at the Faculty of Science of the afore-mentioned University. He worked one year as a junior researcher in the male fertility field for Laboratorios Serono before starting his PhD. After receiving a predoctoral fellowship from the Government of Extremadura, he completed his European PhD at the Department of Physiology of the UEx in 2011. Dr. Bejarano combines his research duties with laboratory classes of Physiology for undergraduate students of the Biology degree at the UEx. He belongs to the Board of the Faculty of Science and has been a member of the Spanish Physiological Society since 2009.

Research Interest

Cell signaling and apoptosis in both somatic and germ cells, specially male germ cells. Effects of melatonin in apoptosis induced by reactive oxygen species and calcium signaling in tumor and non-tumor cells.
