Dr. Igor S. Lukashevich, Professor of Pharmacology/Toxicology and Microbiology and Immunology at University of Louisville, KY. He received his MD from Minsk Medical School (Belarus) and PhD in Virology from Institute of Virology, Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow (Russia). He was trained in medical virology in Belgium, Germany, Japan, and USA.
His long-standing research interest is molecular biology, pathogenesis, treatment and prevention of hemorrhagic fevers caused by highly pathogenic viruses. He published 80+ papers in peer-review journals. In addition to his bench-based experimental work, he worked in endemic areas of West Africa and managed international population-based studies on viral epidemiology. His recent interest is virus/vaccine toxicity, evaluation of liver dysfunction and liver involvement in pathogenesis of viral haemorrhagic fevers, mechanisms of liver regeneration and hepatocyte proliferation, and development of in vitro models for evaluation of vaccine and drug toxicity.
