Biography

Irene Blanco, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. She completed her medical studies at Einstein; after which she went onto her internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell Campus. She then returned to Einstein for her rheumatology fellowship, simultaneously completing a Master’s in Clinical Research and has since become part of the faculty. Her research seeks to improve the clinician’s ability to predict and ultimately improve the outcome of lupus nephritis (LN), A potentially devastating complication of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. The potential for screening and treatment to improve outcomes of LN is demonstrated by increased life expectancy. However, biomarkers currently used to follow disease activity do not always correlate with disease activity.

Research Interest

Dr. Blanco’s research seeks to find new biomarkers for Lupus Nephritis (LN) that better correlate with disease activity, leading to early diagnosis and treatment.
