Dr. James Gao is currently working at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) as a Sr. Research Fellow - Bioinformatics. He is also an adjunct faculty member of the Biotechnology Program at University of Maryland University College. Dr. Gao received his PhD from University of Kentucky, and did his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Dr. Donald Nuss at University of Maryland on a G-protein mediated signaling pathway in a plant pathogenic fungus. For the past several years, Dr. Gao has been focusing on genomic sequencing data analysis at NIH.

Research Interest

Dr. Gao’s current research interests focus on cancer genomics data analysis. He is developing algorithms and pipelines to analyze next-generation sequencing data (exome, RNA-Seq, and whole genome) of clinical samples, and to help understand the biology of cancer development and find potential targets for therapies.
