Jean Christopher Chamcheu is presently the Director of Molecular Dermatology & Experimental Therapeutics Lab in School of Pharmaceutical & Toxicological Sciences at University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. Chamcheu first earned a BS in Biochemistry from the University of Dschang in Cameroon, Africa, and went to Sweden where he obtained MS in 2004 in Biomedicine from the Health Science University of Linkoping and more importantly then obtained his PhD in 2010 in Dermatology & Venereology from the Faculty of Medicine at Uppsala University in Sweden. After his PhD, Dr. Chamcheu moved to the United States and immediately joined the Department of Dermatology, SMPH, UW-Madison as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. In 2014, he was promoted to the Scientist track (a non-tenured research faculty position), where he currently works as an Assistant Scientist (equivalent to the Research Assistant Professor track elsewhere). Dr. Chamcheu’s research efforts till date, has been devoted to investigating and understanding the underlying genetic and molecular basis of skin diseases and to developing novel methods and mechanism-based, small-molecular-weight natural inhibitors and dietary agents for prevention and treatment of hereditary, hyperproliferative, and inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancer. Since then his research has been focused on defining the role of Caspase-14 and PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling in psoriasis, a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory skin condition, and evaluating/developing some small molecules natural dietary agents as novel treatment modalities to address both cutaneous and immunopathogenesis of the hyperproliferative, keratinizing and inflammatory skin disorders. Dr. Chamcheu has published over 21 peer-reviewed scientific articles in various areas and has co-authored 2 Book Chapters. He also serves a member of several professional societies, as well as editorial board member/consultant and reviewer of several scientific journals.
