Biography

Dr Alcantara recevied a BSc degree in Chemistry at the University of Calgary and graduated from Palmer West College of Chiropractic. He is currently Chair of Pediatric Chiropractic Research at Life Chiropractic College West (Hayward, CA) and Research Director for the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (Media, PA). Dr Alcantara initiated and directs the largest practice-based research network in chiropractic to address the safety and effectiveness of the chiropractic care of children, pregnant women and general family wellness care. Dr Alcantara lectures internationally on the subject of chiropractic. In addition to his publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr Alcantara is a contributing author in textbooks such as Pediatric Chiropractic, Somatovisceral Aspects of Chiropractic and Fundamentals of Chiropractic and serves on the editorial review board for a number of chiropractic and integrative medicine journals.
 

Research Interest

Practice-Based Research Network
Dr Alcantara, research interest focuses on the utilization of the practice-based research network to examine the safety and effectiveness of chiropractic care in diverse populations such as children, pregnant women and adults, in general. Specific research pursuits include
• Prevalence and risk assessment of pediatric SMT
• Assess the effectiveness of chiropractic care in children suffering from otitits media, enuresis, asthma, ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Biomechanics
• Given the unique biomechanical features of the pediatric spine, force-time histories of pediatric spinal manipulative therapy requires characterization
