John Soloski is Professor of Journalism in the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia. Previously, he was Dean of the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He was the Daniel and Amy Starch Professor of Journalism and the Director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Iowa from 1996-2001. He is co-author of Taking Stock: Journalism and Publicly Traded Newspaper Company, published in 2001, and Libel Law and Press: Myth and Reality, published in 1987. He is co-editor of Reforming Libel Law published in 1992. Libel Law and the Press won the Distinguished Service Award for research in journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists. His articles have appeared in Columbia Journalism Review, North Carolina Law Review, Journalism Educator, Media, Culture and Society, The Judges’ Journal, Judicature, Communications Lawyer, Communication Research, Iowa Law Review, Communication and the Law, Newspaper Research Journal, Journal of Combination Inquiry, Journalism Educator and Journalism Quarterly .Soloski was a visiting professor in the Faculty of Law and Legal Practice at University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, and was the inaugural fellow of the Australian Press Council. Soloski was editor of Journalism and Communication Monographs from 1994-2002. He is a member of the editorial boards of Newspaper Research Journal, Mass Comm Review, Communication Law and Policy and Journalism: Theory, Practice & Criticism. Soloski teaches courses in news reporting, media law and qualitative research methods. He earned PhD and M.A. degrees from the University of Iowa and an A.B. degree from Boston College.
