Jorge Belinha is graduated in Civil Engineering (2002) and holds a M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering (2005), both obtained in the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). Additionally, in 2010 he has concluded his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering at FEUP. Since his graduation, he has been a researcher at FEUP and INEGI, in the Design and Experimental Validation Unit (UCVE).
He participates actively in international and national research projects, in cooperation with clinical and academic partners. His excellence in science has granted him 4 research merit grants from the Portuguese National Agency for Science (1 PhD grant and 3 Pos-Doc). His areas of interest, both in research and teaching, are: advanced discretization techniques (high order finite elements and meshless methods); Computational biomechanics; Non-linear solid mechanics; Bone tissue remodelling computational simulation; soft/hard tissues modulation; and constitutive models. As a result of the researching activities, until 2016 he has published: one book with international distribution ( ) ; around 40 papers in international scientific jorunals with peer-review ; about 50 papers in other relevant international scientific publications (books, proceedings, non-indexed journals, etc.); 15 book chapters; and he is author of more than 130 works published in proceedings of conferences. Regarding the pedagogic background, since 2009 he is a professor at FEUP, in which he has lectured several structural mechanics unit courses, such as: Classic Mechanics (Static and Dynamics); Solid Mechanics; Continuum Mechanics; Finite Element Methods; Advanced Discretization Techniques. In addition, he has supervised several MSc thesis and PhD thesis at FEUP.
