Dr. Josep J. Centelles has performed his PhD in Chemistry (specialty Biochemistry) at the University of Barcelona during the period 1982-1986. Currently he is working as Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in the University of Barcelona. He has authored more than 100 research articles and books. He is member of the following societies since 1988: Chemical Association of Barcelona, Spanish Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Federation of European Biochemical Societies, Union of Biochemistry (since 1988), Biochemical Society (since 1992), Frontiers in Bioscience Society of Scientists (since 1998) and Spanish Society of Neurology (since 1999). He has been honored by 4 Research recognition periods (1987-2010) and by 5 Professor recognition periods (1987-2011). His research group has been consolidated by the Catalan Government.
Dr. Josep J. Centelles is actually interested in cancer and its metabolism. He has studied glucose transport and the pentose phosphate pathway to generate ribose and deoxyribose. He also studies natural products affecting this metabolism.
