Biography

Dr. Karen Frith is an Associate Professor in College of Nursing at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, USA. She earned her Ph.D. at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. She has published 15 peer-reviewed papers, and she was author of three book chapters. She worked for 10 years in healthcare management before she began teaching. Dr. Frith has taught for 18 years in undergraduate and graduate levels, and served as the department chair for graduate nursing programs for 10 years. She is a member of the American Organization of Nurse Executive and serves on the National Patient Safety committee for that organization. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society. She serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nursing Education and is a peer reviewer for three other journals. She is a peer reviewer for Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT). She was selected as outstanding faculty member for teaching, research, and service at two different universities.

Research Interest

Dr. Frith is board certified as Nurse Executive, Advanced (NEA-BC). Her research focuses on the effects of nurse staffing on patient safety and healthcare organizational outcomes. Along with a research team, she is developing decision support tools to optimize healthcare outcomes. Other areas of expertise include distance education and technology-assisted educational methods. She has been awarded over 1.5 million dollars in research and program grants.
