Lazari Diamanto received undergraduate training in Pharmacy at University of Athens, Greece (1989). She obtained PhD Thesis in Pharmacognosy from the School of Pharmacy, University of Athens, Greece, focused on the “Sesquiterpene lactones from Onopordum laconicum and O. sibthorpianum” (Grade Excellent, June 1997). From 2001-2003 she worked as Teaching Assistant at the Department of Biological Applications and Technologies, University of Ioannina, Greece. In 2003 she was appointed as lecturer at the Laboratory of Pharmacognosy, School of Pharmacy, Thessaloniki and she was promoted to assistant professor in 2010. She has worked since 25 years in the isolation, the structure elucidation and the biological activities of secondary metabolites from natural sources. Her research activity is directed toward the study of bioactive molecules found in endemic plants of Greek flora which are of interest in biological, cosmetic and/or alimentary fields, as well as the study of Essential Oils. Her experience includes diverse phytochemical groups (polyphenolic compounds, terpenes, sesquiterpene lactones, iridoids, bufadienolides, ecdysterones, volatile compounds and essential oils, polysaccharides, etc.) from many plant species, while she have special knowledge of the laboratory methods used for the analyses of plant extracts (chromatography- CC, TLC, MPLC, HPLC, GLC, spectroscopy- 1D, 2D-NMR, MS etc). She have visited and collaborated with success with group of scientists of abroad (Italy (2000): University of Florence, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, six months scholarship and Spain (1995): University of Valencia Department of Organic Chemistry, six months scholarship) and of Greece. She is a member of International and Greek Organizations and she have served as reviewer for several international scientific journals. She has participated in successfully executed research proposals either as Principal Investigator or as Group Leader.
