Biography

Dr. Leonard L. Williams is an Associate Professor within the Center for Excellence in Post Harvest Technologies specializing in microbiology, examines the incidence of foodborne pathogens in fruits and vegetables, including salad crops, using molecular, immunological and epidemiological approaches, with the goal of identifying new strains and their ability to develop resistance to both natural and synthetically derived agents. 
Dr. Williams obtained his Ph.D. degree in food science, specializing in microbiology from Alabama A&M University.  He currently serves as Lead Scientist and Associate Professor of food microbiology and biotechnology in the Center for Excellence in Post Harvest Technologies on the North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis, NC.  In addition to his doctorate degree in food science, Dr. Williams also has a M.S. degree in animal health sciences from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical University

Research Interest

Aromatics, Developing novel nano-biomaterials,Studies determining antimicrobial resistance profiles of multiple microorganisms from food, clinical, and veterinary sources tested against both natural and synthetic agents.
