Biography

Dr. Yanes Cardozo received her MD degree from the Universidad Nacional de Asuncion (Paraguay) and completed her Internal Medicine residency at the Hospital de Clinicas (Paraguay). After completing her postdoctoral training in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, she joined the faculty staff as an Instructor and later on was promoted to the rank of Assistant Professor. She is currently doing the Internal Medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She received the Caroline tum Suden/Frances A. Hellebrandt award from the American Physiological Society. She was awarded the Postdoctoral Fellowship and Scientific Development Grant from the American Heart Association. She has published over 30 original manuscripts. She is an ad hoc reviewer of many top-ranked international journals.

Research Interest

Dr. Yanes Cardozo’s research focuses on understanding the mechanisms of postmenopausal hypertension, and the role of sex steroid hormones and gender differences in hypertension. She is also interesting in the role of testosterone in mediating cardiovascular risk factors in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).
