Biography

Dr. Manuel Lerdau is a Professor at the University of Virginia with appointments in Environmental Sciences and in Biology. He studies the physiology and ecology of terrestrial ecosystems with an emphasis on biological diversity and land cover Over the last 20 years Lerdau has conducted research in Latin America Europe and the United States. He served for 12 years as Assistant Associate and then Full Professor at the State University of New York Stony Brook and directed their Ecology and Evolution Graduate Program for six years. He has also served as a Bullard Fellow and Hardy Visiting Professor at Harvard University Lerdau has published over 70 scientific papers and served as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research and as an Editor-in-Chief of Oecologia. He earned is AB with honors in Biology from Harvard University and his Ph.D from Stanford.
