Biography

Dr. Mohammad Saad Alam received his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Aligarh Muslim University, India, in 2003, his Masters in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, USA in 2005, and his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University, USA in 2009. He pursued his post doctoral research as product and development engineer in hybrid and electric vehicle development division of Chrysler Group LLC, USA till August 2010. From 210-2011 he was an Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Saginaw Valley State University, University Center, MI, USA. From 2011 he is working as Plug-in hybrid vehicle Scientist in Automotive R&D and is serving on SAE standards committees for the development of standards for the integration of plug-in hybrid vehicles with the Smart grid. Dr. Alam has published more than 40 technical publications in the areas of alternative energy, intelligent control of hybrid energy systems, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles, Smart grid and presented his research in international conferences in various countries. He is a member of IEEE and Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). His current teaching and research interests include Alternative energy, intelligent control of hybrid energy systems, energy harvesting from environmentally friendly sources such as wind, solar, ocean, geothermal, biomass, and agricultural wastes, as well as energy storage systems such as advanced batteries, ultra capacitors and flywheels, CHP, Hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell vehicles, distributed generation systems, stand alone and grid-connected power systems, smart grid, energy systems auditing, economic analysis and management.

Research Interest

Dr. Alam’s research interests include Hybrid, Plug-in Hybrid, Electric and Fuel Cell Vehicles; Grid to Vehicle (G2V) and Vehicle to Grid (V2G) Charging Infrastructure; High Voltage Energy Storage Systems: Ni-MH, Li-ion batteries, Ultra Capacitors, Flywheel systems; Integration of plug-in electric vehicles and smart grid;IEEE and SAE Standards & Policies, New and Renewable, Sustainable Electric Energy (NRSEE) Systems; Offshore, Micro, Nano and Smart Power Grids.
