Muhammad Sarwar Khan earned his Bachelor (Honor) and Master (Honor with distinction) degrees from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in 1991 and 1994. He received his PhD degree from University of Cambridge, UK in 1997 after availing Overseas Research Student Award and a Cambridge Commonwealth Scholarship. He carried out postdoctoral research at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and University of Central Florida, USA. Before joining CABB in 2008 Dr. Khan served at National Institute for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (NIBGE) in various capacities. He was founder Group Leader of Chloroplast Biotechnology and Biopharming. He served as founder Head of Biotech Interdisciplinary Division at NIBGE. He received many awards and medals. He was honored with a Gold Medal by Pakistan Academy of Sciences in 2005, Biotechnologist of the Year Award by National Commission on Biotechnology in 2005, Performance Gold Medal by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in 2007 and most prestigious President’s Medal for Technology in 2007.

Research Interest

My Research interest are are the biotechnological applications of plastid transformation, the biosafety of plastid transgenes and transforming mitochondrial genome in plants. And also international patent on plastid genome engineering and a Trade Mark on sugarcane in his credit.
