A/Prof Nathan Lawrentschuk MB, BS, PhD, FRACS (Urology) is the Scientific Program Director of the USANZ 2013 ASM. He is a Urological Surgeon and Urologic Oncologist at the University of Melbourne, Department of Surgery and Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research at the Austin Hospital, Melbourne. He completed a PhD in kidney cancer as well as completing his training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2008 and has completed two additional years of training in robotic, laparoscopic and open cancer surgery at the University of Toronto, Canada at Princess Margaret Hospital, the world's 5th largest cancer centre. In completing this additional certificate, Nathan has now been accepted as a member of the Society of Urologic Oncology (the peak North American body for urology cancer surgery).
Nathan has a special interest in cancer high-risk surgery of the prostate, kidney, bladder and testis as well as being comfortable with active surveillance of many cancers where appropriate. In addition to his additional specialised qualifications, Nathan also completed standard urological training of benign conditions such as benign prostate hyperplasia and kidney stones.
