Dr. Peter Gross, a Journalism Professor who specializes in international communication, began his duties as Director of the School of Journalism and Electronic Media August 1, 2006. Gross came to UT from the University of Oklahoma, where he served as a professor and Gaylord Family Endowed Chair in International Communication at OU′s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication. He also served as the director of the College′s Institute for Research and Training and head of the college′s journalism area.n 2001, Dr. Gross was placed on the Fulbright Senior Specialist Roster. He has received 46 other fellowships, research, lecture and training awards and grants from, among other institutions, Harvard University′s Joan Shorenstein Center on the Press, Politics and Public Policy, J. F. Kennedy School of Government; the National Academy of Sciences; the International Research and Exchanges Board; the Pacific Cultural Foundation; the International Media Fund; the Soros Foundation; the German Marshall Fund of the United States; the Freedom Forum; and the National Science Foundation. In 1996, he was a research fellow at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. Since finishing his PhD in 1984 at the University of Iowa, Dr. Gross has presented papers at major conferences in the Belarus Republic, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Georgia, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan, and the USA.
