Dr Pritam Singh teaches economics and is the Director of development studies (doctoral programme) at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK. He did his doctorate at the University of Oxford and is the author of 2 books and coeditor of 3 others. His two recent books Federalism, Nationalism and Development: India and the Punjab Economy (New York/London, 2008) and Economy, Culture and Human Rights: Turbulence in Punjab, India and Beyond (Delhi, 2010) have received wide critical acclaim. He is on the editorial board of several international journals and on the executive committee of World Association of Political Economy and is Economic Advisor to the British House of Commons All Party Parliamentary Committee for Punjabis in Britain. He is currently working on spatial shift in global capitalism and its sustainability implications.
His research interest is in the area of federalism, nationalism and development, with a focus on India. He is particularity interested in tracking theoretical and empirical work that deals with capitalism and sustainable development in so-called Third World countries. He is also interested in sustainability and critical evaluation of the competing paradigms of development.
