Rand S. Swenson, DC, MD, PhD received a chiropractic degree in 1976 from the National University of the Health Sciences, a PhD in anatomy from Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine in 1981 and an MD degree with honors from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1989. He had postdoctoral training in neurophysiology at Loyola and was a visiting professor of physiology at the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology, where he studied autonomic nervous system neurophysiology from 1983 to 1986. He completed a neurology residency at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in 1993 and subsequently joined the staff of the medical center and received an academic appointment at Dartmouth Medical School. At the present time, he is Professor of Anatomy and Neurology and Chairman of the Department of Anatomy. His academic interests are in the neurobiology of pain, in complementary and alternative medicine and in medical education.
