Biography

Dr. Rick Lin received his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University in 1976. He did his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia. He was appointed to the rank of full professor in 1992 when he joined the faculty of Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  Later, in the fall of 1998, he came on board at the University of Mississippi Medical Center as a full professor in the Dept. of Anatomy. He received a joint appointment as full professor in the Dept. Psychiatry and Human Behavior in 2003. He has reviewed grant applications as a regular member of NIH study sections (VA, neurobiology, NINDS) for almost 7 years. He has served as an associate editor for the Anatomical Record from 2003 to 2010, and authored over 250 scientific articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He has also edited a book entitled, “New concepts in cerebral ischemia”, as well as two special issues for Anatomical Record. Among his many publications, nine reports have been published in prominent journals such as Nature, Science, and PNAS. He has been continuously funded by NIH, NSF, and private foundations throughout his 30+ years in research. Recently, he has received one of the most competitive and prestigious NIH grant awards, the EUREKA (Exceptional, Unconventional, Research Knowledge Acceleration) grant, which allows him to explore whether dysfunction of the serotonin system may be a critical biological factor for the recent surge of autism spectrum disorder in our society.

Research Interest

His research interests and topics are quite diverse, ranging from developmental issue to aging process. At the same time, his training/expertise also covered from system neurobiology to cell and molecular neurobiology. Thus, research topics utilizing multiple approaches including behavior tests, tract tracing, drug exposure, immunohistochemistry, electrophysiology, ultrastructuralanalysis , and  neuroimaging  etc are within the expertise of his background.
