Biography

Shanthi Kuppusamy was born in Kancheepuram, India, in 1962. She received the B.Sc degree in Zoology in the year 1982 and M.Sc degree in Environmental Toxicology in the year 1985 from the Madras University, India. She also received the M.Phil degree in Microbiology and Ph.D. degrees in Environmental Science from the Bharathiar University, India, in 1992 and 2004, respectively. In 1986, she joined the Department of Environmental Science, PSG College of Arts and Science, as a Lecturer, and in 2004 became a Reader, became an Associate Professor in 2006. She is having 26 years of teaching experience and 20 years of research experience.Her current research interests include bioremediation of chromium using bacterial species, nanoparticles synthesis, biopolymer production from bacteria, application of RS and GIS in ground water quality and solid waste management. She is a Life Member of the Indian network of soil contamination research, Association of Microbiologists of India, Journal Nature Environment and Pollution Technology, Indian Science congress, National Solid Waste Association of India, Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological& Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES). She is member in board of study for Environmental Science in various universities. She is also a member for doctoral Committee for various universities. Her area of specialization is Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology, Water pollution and soil pollution, Bioremediation and Phytoremediation, Solid waste management, Environmental Biology, Remote sensing and GIS. She has guided 20 M.Phil scholars and four Ph.D. Now she is guiding six Ph.D scholars. She has attended two workshops in Germany. She presented her research paper in international conference held at Hong Kong and in Florida, USA. She also organized two seminars and international workshops. She has published 21 research articles in both national and international reputed journals.
