Biography

Dr. Shashank Gupta is working in the area of tuberculosis immunology, signaling and drug development in mouse model of tuberculosis.HIs studies on Mycobacterium tuberculosis helps to understand the underlying mechanisms of host-pathogen interaction with special focus on mycobacterial pathogenesis and the other pathways involved in tuberculosis. His recent studies with efflux pump inhibitors have shown that verapamil can be used to accelerate both the bactericidal and the sterilizing activity of standard tuberculosis treatment.

During his doctoral studies from the Immunology group, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, he investigated the roles of different Voltage Gated calcium channels (VGCC) in regulating protective immunity to mycobacteria in vitro and in vivo. His experiments so far have provided some very interesting and positive results towards development of an alternative therapeutic approach for treatment of drug sensitive as well as drug resistant tuberculosis

Research Interest

Dr.Shashank Gupta current research interests are on determining the plasma levels of different anti-tuberculosis drugs like rifampin and isoniazid when co-administered with the efflux pump inhibitors like verapamil.

His research interest is mainly foccused on Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology and Working knowledge of NCBI tools for Bioinformatics Research and software for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
