Biography

 

Shi-Wen (Albert) Jiang, M.D., M.Sc., earned his medical degree and his master of biomedical science degree at Beijing University School of Medicine in China. He then completed his postdoctoral training in the Endocrine Research Unit, Department of Internal Medicine, Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. Jiang has 40 published papers in peer-reviewed research journals. He mentors and advises numerous M.D. and Ph.D. students, research fellows, and clinical residents/fellows. He also serves as editor and reviewer for a number of research journals and publications. Jiang has been invited to lecture in national and international venues.

 

Research Interest

1) Genetic and epigenetic alterations in gynecologic and pancreatic cancers; Regulation of gene expression.Gene-specific silencing by DNA hypermethylation/histone acetylation modification mechanisms in endometrial and pancreatic cancers. Upregulation and tumorigenic roleof DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) incancer progression. 2) Translational studies. Identification of epigenetic markers for early diagnosis of gynecologic cancer; Chemotherapeutic application of DNMT/HDAC inhibitors for the treatment of endometrial cancer patients; Development of novel mouse orthotopic model for studying cancer metastasis and assessment of drug effects. 3) Placental trophoblast differentiation and function; Mechanisms of preeclampsia. TEA domain transcription factors and their regulation on placental cell differentiation and endocrine function. Structure and function of human chorionic somatomammotropin (hCS) gene enhancer; The phosphorylation, DNA binding, and protein-protein interaction of TEA domain transcriptional factors in placental cells. Epigenetic regulation of syncytin expression, trophoblast cell fusion, and its involvement in the development of preeclampsia.
