Dr Sonya Valkova is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the Medical University Pleven, Bulgaria and Head of the Phototherapy Unit in the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, University Hospital Pleven. She has also her own private practice. Dr Valkova received her medical degree from the Medical University Pleven. In 2000 she completed her residency training in dermatology at the Department of Dermatology and Venereology, MU-Pleven and received her PhD degree. Her doctoral thesis entitled “Phototherapy of some dermatoses” focused on UV rays and their combination with different local and systemic agents for the treatment of dermatological diseases. She has authored over 40 research and review articles, textbook chapters and a monograph. She has reviewed papers for the Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology and the British Journal of Dermatology. She is a member of the International Society of Dermatology and International Academy of Cosmetic Dermatology, regional and national dermatologic organizations.
