Biography

Dr. Srinivasan Shanmugam received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science from the College of Pharmacy, Yeungnam University in 2010. During his doctoral studies, his research was on liposomes, niosomes, and chemical enhancers for topical delivery and self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) for oral delivery. He received his MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences in the same university in the year of 2007, and his research focus during this period was on mixed micellar nanoparticles for parenteral and liposomes for topical delivery. His undergraduate major was Pharmacy (Bachelor of Phramacy) and received his degree in the year of 1999 with research focus on “Endothelin Receptors.” Right after undergraduate degree, he gained hands on experience in manufacturing of solid/liquid dosage formulations by working in pharmaceutical companies for about five years. Currently, Dr. Shanmugam is a Project Leader (Principal Scientist) in Formulation R&D Division of Hanmi Pharm. Co. Ltd., South Korea. His research focuses on design and development of conventional, NDDS/alternate/advanced, and modified drug delivery systems, and platform technologies. He has successfully designed, developed, and implemented various platform technologies to enhance oral bioavailability of highly hydrophilic drugs, poorly bioavailable highly lipophilic drugs, etc. Dr. Shanmugam has published numerous research articles in prestigious pharmaceutical sciences journals and presented more than 20 of his work in various symposiums/conferences globally. He is also a reviewer and editorial member of various journals.

Research Interest

His research interests include but not limited to the following; Drug Delivery Systems: Conventional systems (tablets, capsules, emulsions, and suspensions) Novel delivery systems (lipid formulations, micro/nano emulsions/self-emulsifying, micelles, liposomes/niosomes/cubosomes, multiparticulate, and pulsatile/targeted delivery ssytems). Drug Delivery Techniques: Dissolution/solubility/stability enhancement Bioavailability enhancement (oral/lymphatic/transdermal) Perrmeability enhancement (oral/topical/transdermal) Drug Delivery Technologies: Modified release (sustained/delayed/controlled/pulsatile/targeted) Spray/freeze drying, and fluid bed drying
