Biography

Dr. Steven Woods is an Associate Professor of Communication at Western Washington University.  He is a career debate coach having worked with programs at Kansas State, Florida State, Vermont, and William Jewell College.  His PhD emphasis is in Rhetoric and has applied that interest into work on the environment, including his Dissertation on the Endangered Species Act.  His current teaching includes Communication Ethics and Rhetoric of the Environment.  He is also active in promoting real world application of academic knowledge by being the host and organizer for the annual CASCAID (Community Advocacy Support Center) Conference held on the WWU campus.  He has been the Keynote speaker for the Debate Division of the International Conference on Argumentation,     Rhetoric, Debate and the Pedagogy of Empowerment in Koper, Slovenia 2006.  He also organizes a free workshop open to all college debaters on his campus in the summer.

Communicating about the science of the environment to the public at large, Argumentation involving the economy and the environment, Promoting diversity in the participants of intercollegiate debate.
