Biography

Trent W. Nichols Jr. M.D. is an internist, nutritionist, and ABIM gastroenterologist. He is the founder of the Center for Nutrition and Digestive Disorders and the Advanced Magnetic Research Institute in Hanover, Pennsylvania. A graduate of University of Denver with a BS in chemistry, and Northwestern University Medical School, he interned in the US Navy. His internal medicine/gastroenterology postgraduate work was also at Northwestern. He is a co-author of Optimal Digestive Health and has chapters in 3 textbooks. He has been involved in 41 pharmaceutical clinical trials. His research has been on fatty liver, mitochondrial defect as well as genetic preconditions to NASH and the “missing link” to chronic illness. He recently concluded a study on pyridoxal 5’-phosphate deficiency. He is a member of the AGA, Bioelectromagnetic Society and Am. Neurogastroenterology Society. He has been affiliated with Penn State Hershey, Sinai Hospital in Baltimore MD and Wellspan in York PA.

Research Interest

Fatty liver, Mitochondrial defect, Genetic preconditions to NASH and the “missing link” to chronic illness

Trent W. Nichols Jr. M.D. research has been on fatty liver, mitochondrial defect as well as genetic preconditions to NASH and the “missing link, MTHFR gene defects,” to chronic illness. He recently concluded a study on pyridoxal 5’-phosphate deficiency and genetic defects in NASH/ fatty liver disease. He is currently planning studies on the effect of CBD, cannabidiol as a neuroprotective and hepatoprotective.  His research on DC EMF has been recently published. He is also working on a trial of muscadine seed extract in an obese mouse model of fatty liver.
