In his predoctoral training, He had focused on cell ular immune responses in patients with ANCAassociated vasculitis (AAV). He aimed to invest igate the phenotype and function of pathogenic Tcells in this disease, in order to ide ntify new targets for therapeutic intervention. He concluded that CD4+ effector memory T cells (CD4+TEM) represent a promising target for treatment. In addition, He was one of the first to stir up and publish on a defect in regulatory T cells function and increased Th17cells in patient with AAV. This work was done at the department of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology of the UMCG, and the results were 2 published in peerreviewed journals (see publicatio n list). Furthermore, my PhD thesis was awarded by Dutch Federation of Nephrology.
