Biography

William E. Acree, Jr. received his B.S. (1975), M.S. (1977) and Ph.D. (1981) in Chemistry from the University of Missouri at Rolla.  He served as a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Kansas before accepting a faculty position at Kent State University.  He was an Assistant Professor from 1982 to 1986, and an Associate Professor from 1986 to 1988. In 1988 Dr. Acree moved to the University of North Texas, where he is currently a Professor of Chemistry.
Over the past thirty years Dr. Acree has written four research monographs, three book chapters and four encyclopedia articles, and has co-authored 600 peer-refereed journal articles in the areas of solution thermodynamics, chemical equilibria, spectroscopic properties of polycyclic aromatic compounds, thermochemical properties of organic compounds, and development of linear free energy relationships to describe solute transfer between two different phases.  He currently serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of ten different international chemistry journals.
 

Research Interest

Solubility of crystalline nonelectrolyte solutes in organic solvents, thermodynamic transfer properties describing solute partitioning between two immiscible phases, thermodynamic properties pertaining to phase transitions, development of thermodynamic models for describing nonelectrolyte solutions, thermodynamic properties pertaining to ionic liquid solvents, development of linear free energy relationships to describe partitioning processes of chemical and biological importance.
