Yong Li Yong Li
Professor
Head of the Changsha Research Station for Agricultural & Environmental Monitoring
China
Biography

Prof. Dr. Yong Li, studied and worked in The University of Melbourne for more than 10 years, and came back to China as a newly-recruited scientist for the 100-Talents Program of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2009. During his stay in Australia, Prof. Li, developed and used biophysical models, GIS tools and geostatistical methods to investigate the relationship between agricultural activities and the rising environmental issues, e.g. air and soil pollutions, climate change and global warming. He developed a spatially-referenced Water and Nitrogen Management Model (WNMM) that can simulate the C-N-P cycling in agro-ecosystems. The WNMM model has been widely applied in China, Australia, South Korean, United kingdom, Italy and United state. Since 2009, with the support from the “100-Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the State Key Program of National Natural Science of China and the National Basic Research Program (973), Prof. Li has been : i) exploring the relationship between ratios of soil C:N:P and soil productivity on the earth surface; ii) resolving ammonia emission and deposition from agricultural sources to assess the impact on land, water and air in catchments; iii) characterizing the future change of land use pattern and exploring the responsive change of C, N and P transportations in the agricultural catchments under the climate change conditions; and iv) developing an integrated eco-hydrological model (Catchment Nutrients Management Model, CNMM) to simulate water, C, N and P cycling in subtropical ecosystems at the catchment scale, including greenhouse gas emissions from cropping fields and animal farms and mitigation strategies, agricultural N and P diffusion pollution, dry-wet N and P deposition, solute transport in soil-groundwater-surface water systems, and stream water quality. The related research outcomes of Prof. Li were published in a number of peer-reviewed international journals, including Global Biogeochemical Cycles, Ecological Modeling, Ecological Applications, Agriculture & Forest Meteorology, Soil Biology & Biochemistry and Scientific Reports. He has great experiences of scientific research in the earth critical zones.

Research Interest
