Biography

Professor dr hab. med. Zbigniew Gaciong (born 1955) He graduated from the First Faculty of Medicine at the Medical Academy in Warsaw, where he also obtained the degree of habilitated doctor (1992) and the title of professor of the Republic of Poland (1996). In 1988–1990 he worked at the Department of Nephrology at the University of Southern California (Los Angeles) where he received the American Heart Association Fellowship Award. Since 1998, he has been the head of the Department and Clinic of Internal Diseases, Hypertension and Angiology of the Medical Academy in Warsaw, which acts as a reference center for hypertension. Research interests of the Clinic concern the pathogenesis of primary hypertension and its organ complications, methods of diagnostics of vascular dysfunction, the center cooperates with Harvard Medical School, Columbia University and Karolinska Institutet. Professor Gaciong and his team are the authors of over 100 papers in prestigious medical journals, including New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, PNAS, Cancer Cell, PloS Medcine, American Journal of Hypertension, Cardiovascular Research. He is also the author or editor of monographs and handbooks devoted to vascular diseases and hypertension.

Research Interest

Research interests relate to the pathogenesis of primary clinics for hypertension and its organ complications, diagnostic methods for vascular dysfunction.
