Research Interest

Breast cancer metastasis, particularly the biology underlying the process of Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT). In these EMT processes, epithelial cells acquire fibroblast-like properties and exhibit reduced intercellular adhesion and increased motility. Activation of this normally latent EMT program confers cancer cells a distinct advantage for invasion and metastasis to distant organs or tissues. Using biochemical and molecular approaches, my group is characterizing the functional roles of Snail and Twist, two major inducer of EMT, in breast cancer metastasis. Uncover altered signaling pathways that regulate metastasis in breast cancer and, by discovery these pathways, to identify molecules that may serve as the therapeutic targets for metastasis prevention
