Arcady Putilov Dr. Arcady Putilov
Research Institute for Molecular Biology and Biophysics, Russia
Biography

Arcady Putilov is an expert on rhythmic phenomena in living nature and on basic principles of individual variation in chronophysiology and psychology. He received his first PhD (Doctoral Candidate) in animal and human physiology from the Institute of Physiology in 1985, and he received his second PhD (Doctor of Science) in normal physiology from the Medical University of Tomsk in 1999. After graduating from the State University of Tomsk in 1976 (MD in zoology), he has been affiliated with the Institute of Physiology, Novosibirsk (1976-1995). Between 1995 and 1999, he has moved to the Institute for General Pathology and Human Ecology of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Novosibirsk, and has been additionally affiliated with the International Scientific Center ARKTIKA of the Far-East Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Magadan, and of the University of Alaska, Anchorage. Currently, Dr. Putilov serves as chief researcher at the Research Institute for Molecular Biology and Biophysics, Novosibirsk (the former Institute for Medical and Biological Cybernetics). Since 2006, his experimental investigations have been regularly supported by research grants from the Russian Foundation for Basic Science and the Russian Foundation for Humanities. Additionally, he ran the projects of his separate research group (Mathematical Modeling of Biomedical Systems or MMBMS). Since 2017, the topic of his research group project will be "Development of methods for measurement of parameters of chronoregulatory processes for diagnostic, prognosis, and prevention of sleep-wake disturbances". For more than 20 years, Arcady Putilov has served as a member of editorial board of Biological Rhythm Research (Former Journal of Interdisciplinary Cycle Research) and in 2016 he has become a co-editor of this journal. He also joined the editorial boards of several online journals as eather editor or member of the board. Moreover, he served as Lead Guest Editor of Sleep Disorders (2011-2013), as Guest Editor of Current Aging Science (2014-2016), and as a peer reviewer of more than 40 international journals. The results of his early research on rhythmic phenomena were summarized in the monograph Systemforming Function of Synchronization in the Living Nature (Science: Novosibirsk, 1987). The results of his more recent research on basic principles of individual variation were published in the monograph Geometry of Individual Variation in Personality and Sleep-Wake Adaptability (Nova Science Pub Inc: New York, 2010). He also published a book appealing to lay audience of Russian-speaking readers ("Larks", "Owls" and Other…, 1987, 1st ed., 2003, 2nd ed., and 2005, 3rd ed.). He authored a number of scientific papers on chronobiology, somnology, personality, and biological psychiatry in peer reviewed international journals (Chronobiology International, Biological Rhythm Research, Somnologie, Sleep Science, Sleep and Biological Rhythms, Neuropsychopharmacology, Clinical Neuroscience, Clinical EEG and Neuroscience, Physiology and Behavior, Personality and Individual Differences, Journal of Individual Differences, International Journal of Psychophysiology, Journal of Psychophysiology, Current Aging Science, Ergonomia, World Journal of Biological Psychiatry, Psychiatry Research, Advances in Experimental and Medical Biology, Psychopathology, Arctic Medical Research, Interdisciplinary Cycle Research, etc.). Dr. Putilov has long-term experience (since yr. 1980) in giving lectures for academic, student and lay audiences. Since 1993, he has been a lecturer at the Humanitarian Academy of Siberia, the Classical Institute, and the Novosibirsk State University (Novosibirsk). In 2001-2003, his work on a textbook on evolutionary psychology (Human zoological psychology: Mind of men and women in the mirror of evolution) was supported by a grant from Russian Foundation for Humanities. In 2002-2004 he organized a series of the international Siberian Indian Summer Schools on Human Ethology (www.ethology.nsu.ru). In 2013, his work on a science popular book about pre-history of evolutionary psychology (Evolution of psychology: history of basic psychological and biological theories in the mirror of evolutionary psychology) was supported by a grant from the Russian Foundation for Humanities (https://www.rfh.ru/downloads/Books/134693004.pdf), and in 2016, his “History and state-of-the-art review of experimental research on biological rhythms: From observations of leaf movements to forced desynchrony studies” was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research. He was included in Who Is Who in Russian Science (https://www.expertcorps.ru/science/whoiswho/) and profiled in Marquis Who's Who in the World (https://cgi.marquiswhoswho.com/OnDemand/Default.aspx?last_name=Putilov&first_name=Arcady) and N.L.Aslanyan, S.K.Madoyan “The Achievements of Chronobiology and Chronomedicine”, Yerevan: Noyan Tapan, 2002, p. 215: Putilov Arcady Alexandrovich.
