Biography

Dr. Celeste R. Parker is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communicative Disorders in the School of Public Health at Jackson State University. During her tenure at JSU she served as the Interim Clinical Coordinator for three years and the advisor for the student organization for four years. Additionally, she has supervised a number of students in their clinical practicum at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Prior to her appointment at Jackson State University she served as an Assistant Professor at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA for two years. Dr. Parker received a B.S. degree in Speech Pathology/Audiology from Xavier University of Louisiana, a M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Northern Iowa and a Doctorate of Speech-Language Pathology (SLP.D.) from Nova Southeastern University. She has been a licensed certified Speech-Language Pathologist for 11 years. She has worked in several settings including elementary school, middle school, high school, hospital, skilled nursing, private practice, and academia. Dr. Parker is a member of the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association, the Mississippi Speech-Language-Hearing Association, the National Black Association of Speech-Language Hearing, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She served as a Reviewer for the 2013 Minority Student Leadership Program (MSLP) and as a Panelist for the FCC Connect2Health Beyond the Beltway Series: Telehealth Forum in Jackson, MS. She currently serves as a reviewer for Jones & Bartlett Learning, an editor for the Journal of Communication Disorders and Assistive Technology, and the committee chairperson for Health Promotion in her sorority chapter.
