Dr. Bhawna Sharma Dr. Bhawna Sharma Assistant Professor, National JALMA Institute, Agra, India
Biography

Dr. Bhawna Sharma is M.Sc Microbiology and Ph.D Microbiology with specialization in Immunology from Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar university, Agra (India). Shejoined National JALMA Institute for Leprosy and Other Mycobacterial Diseases (ICMR), in Agra as a Scientist after completion her Ph.D in 2013.She is working as a scientist in Immunology Division of the Institute since 2013. She is also involved in teaching various topics of Immunology and Microbiology to post graduate students of University. During her Ph.D. tenure she studied cellular and Molecular mechanisms of T cell activation in TB patients in response to M. tuberculosis antigens and she also studied Phenotypic and functional characterization of M. tb antigen specific T cell subsets in blood and in cells from infection site in TB pleurisy patients. Her current research interest includes immunology of Tuberculosis and Leprosy. She is studying Host-pathogen interaction during TB infection. Her research emphasize on mechanism of T cell activation during TB, she employ TCR based approaches for studying proximal and distal T cell activation pathways in T cells of blood and pleural fluid among TBP patients. Her group is also analyzing the role of M. tb antigens (ESAT-6 and CFP-10) specific polyfunctional CD4+ T cells and IL-17 and IL-22 producing cells as biomarkers for the diagnosis of Tuberculous Pleural Effusion and also to uncover the memory status of these cells in systemic circulation and at site of infection in TBP patients. This study may provide a good correlate for protection and will be helpful in diagnosis of TBP patients.
