Biography

I am a Professor of Epidemiology and Community Medicine. I have an active interest in Geriatrics and Gerontology. Most of my work focuses on ageing and health. I am working on many research studies which evaluate the physical as well as mental health of the older people, aged 60 years and more. I am Principal Investigator (PI) of Mobility and Independent Living in Elders Study (MILES), a Longitudinal Study, initiated in 2012 by SHARE INDIA-Mediciti Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) in collaboration with University of Pittsburgh, funded by University of Pittsburgh, USA and NIH, Fogarty International Centre, USA and approved by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR); in 40 villages of Medchal Mandal, Telangana State, India. I have other two research projects funded by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) 1. A cross sectional study of falls and fall related injuries among elderly in an urban area in South India and 2. A cross sectional study of frailty and chronic diseases among oldest old (aged 80 years and more) population in an urban area in South India. I am also actively working as Project manager and Co-Investigator on a ICMR funded project, Comprehensive Intelligent ARI Monitor for reducing pneumonia deaths among rural under - five children in Medchal mandal, Telangana. Here we are making a device to diagnose the pneumonia and a communication system for rapid action to prevent pneumonia deaths in children. I am Co – Principal Investigator on a research project jointly collaborated with Biological science department, BITS Pilani Hyderabad to study the effect of BMI on changes in gut permeability after fasting/food intake
