Biography

Dr.Gausal is currently Sr. Scientist/ Associate Professor of Physiology in DIPAS, Govt. of India (New Delhi, India). He is an active contributor and visiting Professor for University and professional organisation in India. He was previously worked as By-Lay Chair of AACC (Ohio Valley section). He was recipients of several international awards i.e. Developing World Scientist Award from ISTH. He is currently working on role of sterile inflammation in cardiovascular disease and Insulin Resistance under stress.

Research Interest

I have substantial expertise on sterile inflammation induced insulin resistance (Diabetes) during stress. I have focused on the role of Von Willebrand factor in the regulation Nitric Oxide synthesis and it’s implication in insulin resistance or glucose intolerance under stress. We have reported that stress induced insulin resistance or glucose intollerance is mainly due to inhibition of nitric oxide synathesis where vWF played as an antagonist of nitric oxide synathase. Though nitric oxide is the second massanger of insulin and key for the Glut 4 regulation. We have also shown a oral insulin formulation whose preclinical study is going on. It will be a possible mode of insulin therapy in future. These studies inviolve humans, rats and genetically modified mice. The research has implications for increasing our understanding of Diabetes. Another area of investigation is to understand the mechanism of cardiovascular changes due to hypoxia exposure. Here, I mainly focused on the hypoxia induced inflammation and its consequential effects i.e. thrombosis, pulmonary hypertension and insulin resistance. Hypoxia induced endothelial dysfunction and inflammation is the key to activate innate immune system i.e. toll like receptors which leading to change of endothelial dysfunction. We have found that hypoxia induces sterile inflammation which release several endogenous ligands i.e. eRNA,eDNA, HMGB1 etc. from dying cells which causes TLRs activation and leading to inflammation and vascular diseases. Vascular inflammation is considered one of the crucial causes of morbidity and mortality in myocardial infarction and acute lung injury where hypoxia is a predominant feature.
