Currently, he directs the research activities of the Lagoon Ecology and Aquaculture Laboratory (LEALab), for the Orbetello Pesca Lagunare Company. He cooperated or is co-operating with Grosseto University Pole, Universities of Pisa, Siena, Florence, Parma, Venice and Rome, Central Institute for Environment Research and Protection of Rome (ISPRA, ex ICRAM), WWF-Italy, Regional Agency for Tuscany Environmental Protection (ARPAT), FAO-Rome, National Research Council (CNR, Italy), National Agency for New Technology (ENEA), Italian Health High Institute (ISS) and Orbetello Lagoon Environmental Reclamation Authority. His research holds mainly the following lines: 1- control of submerged vegetation development and forecast and prevention of dystrophic risks in lagoon environment; 2- bio-geo-chemistry of the coastal sediment; 3- biological tools for lagoon environment management; 4- assessment of seagrass meadow state and quantifying the human impact; 5- assessment of fish-farm wastewater impact and improvement solutions. He taught for first level Master (Univ. of Siena) and for aquaculture specialization courses (Ministry of the Environment and Territory and Sea Protection- MATTM, Regional Administration of Tuscany-RT and Grosseto Department Administration-PGr) and was Relator of Degree Thesis (University of Pisa, Siena and Rome). Member of Italian Society of marine Biology (SIBM) since 1985; Member of the Maremma Regional Natural Park Council between 1996-99; Cofounder Member of Italian Network for Lagoon Research (LAGUNET) since 2006.
